Coventry University

Coventry University is an open exploration college in the city of Coventry, England. It was made as a college through the Further and Higher Education Act 1992, and was earlier known as Lanchester Polytechnic until 1987 and Coventry Polytechnic until it was granted college status. The inceptions of Coventry University can be followed back to the 19th century with the establishing of the Coventry College of Design in 1843. Later it was renamed as the Coventry School of Art, it was again renamed in the mid 20th century to the Municipal Art School as a major aspect of the Education Act 1902. One last name change occurred in the 1950s, when it got to be known as the College of Art. In the late 1950s, to address the requirement for an abnormal state of specialized preparing in Coventry which the current Coventry Technical College (now City College Coventry) couldn't meet, the development of another foundation started. Opened in 1961, it was known as the Lanchester College of Technology, named after Frederick Lanchester. In 1970, the Lanchester College of Technology and the College of Art, alongside the Rugby College of Engineering Technology in the neighboring town of Rugby, amalgamated to frame Lanchester Polytechnic. The foundation was assigned accordingly in February 1971 by then Education Secretary Margaret Thatcher. The name Lanchester gave the foundation a certain level of indistinct quality, remarkably when none of the hopefuls on the BBC Radio 4 general information show Brain of Britain could issue its right area.
